House Groups

House or Class groups are at the heart of Methodism and play a key role in church life, particularly in a church as large as EMC. Small groups of people get together in each other’s homes for fellowship, study, prayer and mutual support. Everyone can join a class - there are a wide variety of groups, which meet at different times in the week or month.

You will be aware that to accomplish our Mission Statement we have discerned that God is calling us to encourage "all to share in the excitement and challenge of the Christian journey".

The leadership team are convinced that one way we can respond to this aspect of our Mission Statement is through the support and development of House Groups. These of course run alongside Alpha and Disciple. We therefore want to support the existing House Groups and when necessary to start new ones.

For all arrangements concerning the use of EMC rooms,

“Doorkeeper in the House of the Lord” (Psalm 84 v10)

The psalmist recognised that to be the doorkeeper in God’s house was a great service, though a humble one!  We want to recognise the very great service that’s been given to EMC by our own ‘doorkeeper’, who has for many years ‘kept watch over the going out and the coming in’ of all the groups which meet at EMC.

Tom Styche has carefully ensured that rooms are reserved and prepared for every group and, as far as humanly possible, has catered for the needs of all the gatherings, serving the church and community.

Thank you Tom for your care and commitment to this task – the church is grateful to you and will always be in your debt.

Tom continues as EMC Property Steward working with the Property Committee to keep the premises in good order, but from June 1 2008 for all reservations for rooms and future bookings, please contact Sue Massingham on 07534 428584 or e-mail (or speak to her in person Tuesday to Friday mornings in the Ministers’ office)
