New Beginnings – Flower Festival –
EMC opened its doors to members
and the public alike to share in the celebrations with flowers and floral
creations over the weekend of June 13th/14th/15th
2008. Over 200 people witnessed some wonderful displays of creativity
by church members, Epsom Churches, local florists, floral clubs and
exhibitors from local garden centres.
The ‘Welcome Area’ was
beautifully decorated with wedding flowers and accoutrements hinting at New
Beginnings and together with soothing water feature made any visitor feel
most welcome. The interior of the Church area was decorated with many
creations from various groups within the Church community (PAG, Brownies,
Guides, Scouts, EMC Nursery to name just a few). The Courtyard was adorned
with a display from ‘the Moat Garden Centre in Epsom (offering discounts to
EMC members) enhancing again the Courtyard Gardens completed by Caroline
Broderick and her team.
Please take some time to view
the photographs of the exhibits on the
website.
Whilst it cannot reproduce the tranquil atmosphere or the fragrances, the
photographs will remind us all of how Gods creation and the talents he has
blessed us with can work together to produce such delights. Many thanks to
all those who gave their time and talents to this great occasion in the life
of the Church.
The festival was supported by
continual refreshments from the catering team and thanks to Ann Arthur,
Audrey Broderick and Pam Ellison for supplying the sandwiches etc.
A total in excess of £500 was
raised for the Youth Hall which is fantastic news. Thanks again to all who
contributed and those who came along to support but special thanks to those
who gave their time to stewarding and helping with refreshments.

EMC Celebration & Outreach
This presents us with a wonderful opportunity
for everyone to return to the fellowship, for us all to encourage those who used
to be part of the church to come and join us again, and for all of us to bring
new people.
EMC Dedication & Celebration
2008

Rev Jenny Impey (London District Chair)
and Rev
Thomas J Stuckey

NEWS that the church is dying
did not appear to have reached Epsom where more than 400 people crowded
into the newly refurbished worship area for a service of celebration and
dedication led by the minister, the Rev David Winwood, and the Co-Chair
of the London District, the Rev Jenny Impey. The preacher was the Rev
Tom Stuckey and there were special musical items by the choirs of the
Chinese congregation and the Brazilian fellowship which are part of the
life of the church. In the congregation were civic leaders, circuit
ministers, ministers of other Epsom churches, and former ministers, the
Revs Michael Meech, David Bridge, Alan Bradley, David Coote and the Rev Dr Peter
Graves. It was announced that the cost of more than £1.5 million had
already been raised and that the church was now raising money for a new
youth hall to accommodate the 500 young people who belong to the church,
many of them in the uniformed organisations. The preacher at the two
Sunday morning services was the Rev David Bridge (left). The first was a
service of Holy Communion and the second a parade service for which the
church was again nearly filled to capacity.
The celebrations will continue
throughout the year when special events will include a flower festival,
a visit by the National Methodist Youth Brass Band, an international
weekend and a “Minister’s Jazz Nite”.
With thanks from the Methodist Recorder
