Jesus, a gift to us
Lord Jesus, every time we have
fallen short of the standards you have set for us, you have brought us
back through your redeeming grace. Lord, you paid such a high price,
pray make us worthy to serve you, honour you and worship you as our Lord
and Saviour.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
Christ as Teacher
Just as you, Lord, went about
teaching, we pray for all those committed to teaching the Gospel through
the pulpit and classroom. We pray that you will bless those called to
preach and teach and that you will speak through them. We pray that
those who listen will hear the message, experience your blessings and
come to know you and your love for them.
All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2 Titus 3:16
Christ as a fountain of living water
Just as a fountain flows continually, your Holy Spirit is continually
available to those who love you. Lord Jesus, help us to drink at that
fountain of living water so that we are continually refreshed and
thereby share your grace with others.
Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the
water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling
up to eternal life."
John 4:14
Christ full of compassion
Lord, help us to follow your example and show compassion to those in
need. Just as your heart went out to those you saw in need, help us to
have the same concern for the troubled, the bereaved and the sick and to
show acts of kindness.
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion,
kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience,
Colossians 3:12
Christ the bringer of peace
Lord, there are many places in this world where justice and peace are
lacking and where people are being persecuted and oppressed for their
religious and political views. We pray that you will encourage, support
and bring help to those in these situations. We pray also for those
whose lives are dedicated to bring peace to these troubled lands.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:9
Jesus is Love
How can we understand the selfless nature, the wideness and full extent
of your love for each one of us? In the hymn writer’s words ‘A love
that would not let me go’ and as St. Paul prayed ‘that we may have power
to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and
height and depth of the love of Christ’. We pray, Lord, that we may
try and return that love by living life as we ought and by recognizing
your presence in those whom we meet.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love
for one another."
John 13:35
Christ as healer
Lord Jesus, we pray for all those sick in mind, body and spirit.
especially for those known to us and we name them in our hearts. We
bring each of them to you and ask that you lay your healing hands on
them that they may be made whole. We pray also for those in the healing
ministry that through the touch of their hands and the words they speak
they may bring healing to those that seek it and also the peace of
knowing that the Holy Spirit is with them.
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every
disease and every infirmity.
Matthew 9:35
Christ as creator
Lord Jesus, we are surrounded by the signs and evidence of your
wonderful creation in the natural world around us. Just as nature is
subject to change, experience tells us that living our lives in devotion
to you brings about profound changes in our outlook and behaviour.
Knowing you truly creates a new heart, a new person, with different
priorities. We pray, Lord, that all those who have not come to know you
as their Lord and Saviour, seek to put their trust in you and come to
experience that change in their lives and in future live their lives to
glorify you.
Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of
your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and
acceptable and perfect.

Methodist Church launches audio Bible study
A Word in Time, the online Bible study for daily life, was launched at the
beginning of September 2007 and has been hugely successful, with
around 300 visitors to the site every day.
But now the team have decided to
make the studies even more accessible. An audio file of each
day’s Bible study and a bigger file with all of the studies for
each week can easily be downloaded onto a computer or mp3
player, so that users can listen at a time convenient to them.
Alison Pollard, Web Writer and
Researcher and the new voice of A Word in Time says; ‘People
find it increasingly difficult to make time to read and reflect
on the Bible in today’s busy world. A Word in Time made it
easier by giving people access to a Bible study on the internet.
Now we’ve taken it to the next level and you can catch up with
your daily Bible study at a time most convenient to you –
whether you’re cooking dinner, doing your weekly shop or on the
daily commute to work.’
A Word in Time features a daily Bible reading, background and an
explanation of the text, reflections and questions to ponder
from that week’s contributor. It follows the readings in the
Methodist Prayer Handbook bringing the 40,000 readers of the
handbook together with online disciples in their search for
daily spirituality.
Each audio file is available in
two formats – a high quality version for those using broadband
internet connections and a lower-quality file for those using a
dial-up connection. The audio files for past Bible studies are
available online in the Word in Time archives.
The audio Bible studies are also
ideal for sharing with those who otherwise might not have access
to daily Bible notes, perhaps because of a disability or simply
not having access to the internet.
