‘Plant a Tree’ Initiative' and The Methodist Church
The Sutton (Surrey, UK) Circuit has decided, through the Circuit Meeting, to support this campaign, in true Methodist tradition, a committee was formed to explore the issue and to act on its findings. Because of that meeting. It was decided our Circuit could support
this campaign by endorsing and participating in the Methodist Church Relief and Development Fund (MRDF) initiative called
‘Plant a Tree’
What is
‘Plant a Tree’? Essentially MRDF is involving itself in a very practical activity which is designed to improve the quality of life for many people in Africa and India Tree plantation assists the development of the local economy. Wood from trees can be used for many purposes,
paper, fuel, shelter etc. Importantly it can be a source of income allowing a community to better fund itself and to develop. Tree plantation is also vital in the prevention of environmental damage, by reducing soil erosion also by replacing vast areas of deforestation, which have compounded the cycle of soil erosion and global environmental damage.
‘Plant a Tree’
Will enable real people to help themselves, relieving debt in a practical manner. For instance, the women of the Methodist Church of Ghana are growing fast growing timber as a cash crop. In between these trees, which have improved the soil, they grow maize, cassava and pineapples our support will continue to assist activities such as this and resource new initiatives.
What can you do?
You can buy bonds. You can obtain details of how to get these bonds
via this e-mail.
All monies collected will be placed in the Circuit Campaign account, held at Lloyds Bank.
It may sound obvious, but we would hope no one would wish to redeem his or her bond(s), as this would utterly defeat the purpose!
