Counselling in the Epsom Methodist Church (EMC)

Had you ever wondered why there was a need for a Counselling Service within the EMC? You have ministers and friends to talk to – why go and speak to a complete stranger?

Consider for a moment what it is like when you are having a difficult time, or have a particular problem and think it would help to talk to someone.

The following thoughts may pass through your mind: one friend is too busy with their own problems to burden them with yours; another always wants to sort everything out for everyone and you just want someone to listen;

what if you start crying?

or are interrupted in the middle of your story?

or distress the person you’re speaking to?

and how will you feel when you see that person again?

Oh and how about "I feel so embarrassed/ashamed/guilty – I can’t possibly speak to the minister"?

If you would like someone to listen to you, uninterrupted for 50 minutes, once a week in a safe, confidential, environment and explore the thoughts and feelings arising from your difficulties, then do consider contacting the Counselling Service.

If you would like to contact one of the team in complete confidence, please do so by telephone.
