On Monday 26th April 2005 Coffee Cup
celebrated its 20th birthday with a buffet lunch at the
lovely home of Pam Olsen. The occasion was enjoyed by 32 past and
present helpers and guests Monica and Michael Whelton.
Coffee Cup opened on April 25th 1985 with a
loan of £100 from the Church Council and £20 from each of the founder
members. The first cup of coffee was served to John Barff and we waited
for our customers to roll in! We soon repaid the loans and before long
had donated the first £100 to the Northern Ireland Children's Holiday
Fund.
During the last 20 years, Coffee Cup has been able to
donate over
£20 000 to Epsom Methodist Church and a wide range of charities.
The sale of greetings cards, which has proved very
popular, has contributed to this sum.
Our aim in Coffee Cup is to provide a friendly atmosphere
- where people from within and outside the church feel able to come and
relax - and offer a listening ear if necessary.
We have been blessed with enormous support from all our
helpers and of course our customers. From day one we have been desperate
for more room; dare we hope the day is at last getting nearer?
During the week of our birthday, as a gesture of thanks
to our customers, we charged half price for everything. Sorry if you
missed it but we are open every weekday morning from 10.00 to 12.00 so
why not come in and have a coffee with us.
We look forward to seeing you.
